Cairns Esplanade
The
Cairns Esplanade is one of the main attractions of Cairns and a popular
destination for tourists and locals. The Esplanade stretches along the
waterfront of Trinity Inlet and is made up of walking paths, boardwalks,
the lagoon swimming area, children's play areas, bbq areas, a skate
park, volley ball courts and a large amount of green public park areas.
The Cairns Esplanade is home to a wide variety of local wildlife and is a favorite spot for birdwatchers, also for tourists at dusk as the rainbow lorikeets fly and feed in the large trees which line the Cairns Esplanade.
The Esplanade is a great place for walking, you will find interpretive nodes in 3 locations which offer information on local wildlife, local history and the environment, also a war memorial to honor local service man and women.
On hot days locals and visitors folk to the Lagoon which is a 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon. The Lagoon area also includes a sandy beach front, life guards, bathroom and changing rooms, cafeteria facilities and a mixture of shady spaces and wooden decks for sunbathing and relaxing.
The children's play areas are also a popular location for locals and
visitor's. Muddy's Playground is a popular spot and is a mixture of
water and play park while the Funship is another popular play area.
For older children the skate park will provide hours of entertainment at 2,315m2 the skate park is one of Australias largest skate parks.
The Cairns Esplanade hosts music and cultural events, be sure to check locally for more details and is home to the Esplanade markets which are held every Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
All and all the Cairns Esplanade is one of the most popular destinations in Cairns and is well worth taking the time to explore.
